Throughput is the whole product
Mud Mixer publishes 45-plus 80 lb bags per hour. That is one bag every 80 seconds, continuously.
Put it in context. An 80 lb bag yields roughly 0.6 cubic feet of mixed concrete, so 45 bags an hour is about 27 cubic feet, or a cubic yard per hour. A 10 × 12 foot patio at 4 inches thick is about 1.5 cubic yards — ninety minutes of feeding.
The published figure assumes a second person keeping the hopper fed. Working alone, between opening bags, lifting them and repositioning the discharge, expect closer to 30 bags an hour. That is still half again a drum mixer's rate and about four times mixing by hand.
Where the continuous design changes the job is not just speed. With a batch mixer you pour in discrete loads and there is a seam in your work every time you wait for the next batch. With continuous feed, the pour is continuous, which matters for anything where a cold joint is a defect.
Consistency is the feature nobody advertises
Every batch you mix by hand or in a drum is slightly different. Slightly more water here, a bit less mixing time there, one bag that sat in a damp shed. On a slab that mostly does not matter. On a wall built from mortar, or a stucco elevation, it shows.

What it needs, and where it cannot go
Two utilities: a 110 V outlet and a garden hose.
The power requirement is trivially small — 300 watts is under 3 amps, less than a hair dryer. It runs off a household circuit, a small generator, or a long extension lead without complaint. That is a real advantage over gas drum mixers: no fumes, no starting drill, usable indoors, and quiet enough to work near neighbours.
The water requirement is the constraint. This machine meters water from a live supply; it does not have a tank. On an unserviced lot, a remote site, or anywhere the water is in a bowser rather than a tap, it does not work. A gas drum mixer and a barrow of water works anywhere.
Two other practical limits. Bagged mixes only — the auger is designed around the aggregate size in bagged concrete, mortar and stucco, and oversized aggregate is not recommended. If you batch from separate sand, gravel and cement, this is the wrong tool. And 185 lb over 66.5 inches means it fits a pickup bed comfortably and a hatchback not at all. The cleaning discipline
Five minutes with the integrated rinse hose immediately after the last bag, running the auger in reverse. That is the whole maintenance routine, and it is not optional.
Leave the machine an hour on a warm day and you are chiselling cured concrete out of an auger flight, which is an unpleasant afternoon and a genuine risk to the machine. This is true of every mixer ever made, but a continuous auger has more internal surface than a drum and less access to it.

For a working crew that is the real return, and it is larger than the throughput number suggests. A job that took two people a full day can become two people and a half day, which is a labour saving of roughly a quarter of the total rather than the eighth the raw bags-per-hour figure implies.

The horizontal paddle mortar mixer is the machine most masonry crews actually own, and it is the closest competitor. What it lacks is continuous output and a fixed water ratio; what it has is independence from a water supply and a price a third of this.

Who should not buy this
- Weekend DIYers with one project. Rent. The maths does not work and it never will.
